Ahhh Spring
You can sense the winds changing; see the bare trees begin to show signs
of life once again; feel the sun slowly warm our hemisphere from the
chill grip of winter. Birds begin to sing with more flirtation, the
Canada Geese begin their long migration back home from the sunny beaches
of Florida. Even the Eastern Grey Squirrel starts its job tryin to find
all those nuts it hid all winter. Personally, I knew it was spring when
the same damn Oriole was spotted on the side view mirror of our car. He
must have our car bookmarked on his little internal GPS or something,
because he's been vacationing here for the past 4 years and he's always
crapping all over the mirror!
But to us, our dearest friends and family, Spring can only mean one
thing:
Crawfest is coming!
Yes folks, it'zat time again!
What: 9th Annual Raleigh Crawfish Festival with 409 lbs of live crawfish
to boil, kegs to drink, and bands to rock with
When: Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 around 2:00pm
Where: 5216 Yates Mill Pond Rd.
Yes, another year has gone by. And oh what changes we have seen. A new
President, a new Senator, and a new Governor elected so now we're
cleaning the same stables but for different bulls. And now that the
EconomyT is in the tank, we have all sorts of new buzz words to describe
our packages like "Stimulus" and "Recovery." It's as if the government
hired the same Madison Ave. firm that worked on those Viagra ads. ("If
you have a recession that lasts for more than 4 hours, please call your
doctor for a bailout.") Still, we know that it has been a rough time for
many. Whether you have lost your job or not, you probably know a few
people who have. And there's just that overall loss of confidence in the
system that makes you just wanna start keeping your cash in a mason jar
under the tree in the backyard. But we keep our faith in the paper or
plastic, charge it all to our tab and keep on keepin on. We just want to
give you the chance to let off some of that tension. Relax for a day and
leave your worries and your 401k statements behind you. This is what we
do.
We do it with 409 lbs of live crawfish and music. We do it with friends
and family. We do it with fun and games. We do it rain or shine; jackets
or bikinis. We do it for richer but usually wind up poorer. And we just
want to let you know that we actually have no idea why we keep doing
this. We just love to throw a party. So as long as you keep coming out
to have a good time, we might as well keep giving you one.
This year we're gonna have three live bands for your musical stimulus.
House-band, Oatmeal Conspiracy returns for their 4th appearance to funk
and groove the early evening. Ivana Hump & the Mountain Oyster Band will
be jazz rockin the sunset hours. And Potato Gun, after a one-year
hiatus, will return for a shot of hard rockin hits.
You know the tune we like to sing about keeping the money as easy as
possible. All the work and time we put into this has been donated but
the beer and shipping live crawfish don't get cheaper in a recession. We
have a suggested donation of $20 per person but you should make your
donation to your level of participation. The money bucket will be on the
table. Thanks in advance for your support. We will also have those fancy
t-shirts for sale again so bring a little extra and make sure you get
one before they sell out!
A few public service announcements we'd like to add here: Please park as
far in the back as you can. There is ample room for everyone including
the VIP lot back behind the trailer. Please do not park on the side of
the driveway, just keep going back as far as you can, and always be
courteous to your fellow party-people vehicles. Also, although it has
only been a slight problem in the past, this year we would appreciate it
if those of you who really need to bring your dogs make sure that they
understand and obey the commands 'sit' and 'stay.' If they are not good
around other dogs or small children, then please leave them at home.
So bring your good times and your laughter too. The first pot will be
ready around 2pm and we'll cook em till they're gone!
The Paddle Master,
gud
