[TFDA] Fwd: change notice for lists.ibiblio.org list owners

Ultimate Email List owners ultimate-owner at lists.ibiblio.org
Mon Mar 17 15:15:37 EDT 2008

Hey all,

The ibiblio system administrators just changed the server-wide policy
for non-subscriber posts. Any future posts from a non-subscribed
email address will be silently discarded. Previously, most
non-subscriber posts would receive a notification email. There is
also a "List of non-member addresses whose postings should be
automatically accepted" that has several emails listed in it,

Please check your email a little bit after you attempt a post to make
sure things are working. If a post hasn't come through within 1 hour,
and you are sure the "From:" line from your email is either
subscribed to the list or on that exceptions list, please send an
email to ultimate-owner -at- lists.ibiblio.org to let us know.

lists.ibiblio.org List Administrators and list owners,

You are receiving this one-time notification message because a list
you own was previously configured to send a notification to
non-members who tried to post to your list. Since this can be abused
by people wishing to send junk mail, we have changed your list.

Mail to your list which is sent by a non-member will now be silently
discarded with no notice to you or to the person attempting to post.

== What you need to do ==

Some of you may want to know what this update and updates like this
are about, others may be more interested in jumping straight to how to
manage lists, deal with list users having problems, etc. Please skip
 to the appropriate heading below.

=== to hear about updates and changes ===

To make sure you hear about changes like this in the future (before
they happen), you should be subscribed to the ibiblio-announce list:

 http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/ibiblio-announce

Please fill out the form above to subscribe yourself if you're not on
this list. It gets very little traffic and we'll never spam you.

You can also subscribe to an RSS feed on our systems blog:

 http://www.ibiblio.org/sysblog/

We do not plan to send more one-time notices like this in the
foreseeable future, so please do subscribe to ibiblio-announce, the RSS
 feed, or both.

=== to manage your list ===

If you don't know what list you own, please file a ticket here:

  http://www.ibiblio.org/help/

If you have list subscribers or users who are now having problems,
start by asking them which email address(es) they have used to
subscribe to your list. Chances are they're receiving mail at one
address but trying to post with another address that's not subscribed.

If you have concerns about this change or have other problems running
your list, please file a ticket here describing your problem:

  http://www.ibiblio.org/help/

 Cheers,
 --
 ibiblio.org systems staff
