[TFDA] Spring league format debate

Well, now that you've mentioned it, I actually do have some thoughts on this league system as a brand-new-to-the-triangle-ultimate-league player.
First of all I'm not shy about showing up to games and such on my own and meeting people as I play. But a lot of the postings about league formations can seem a little daunting to those of us that are new to the scene in that it seems that a lot is taken for granted as far as what has happened in past leagues and so forth so for people like me there are a lot of elements that are still unknown. It would be nice if the postings provided more basic info. and less chat about how things have been done or or references to systems and rules that only those who have been in the scene would know about.
Second, I have to say that it almost seems as though the atmosphere is not very welcoming to new-comers in general. Perhaps the area is quite saturated and there isn't necessarily a need for more players but if the leagues are going to be open to anyone who subscribes to the list serve then I feel the postings should reflect that more. For instance, this whole core thing. I feel it's probably a great solution for many reasons and meets the needs it's meant to fulfill but I don't get the since that being a "straggler" or a draftee is looked at as being a positive place to be. It almost seems like people will scramble to avoid being that person. Until I read all the postings on the matter just now, I hadn't really thought twice about whether I was on a core. Again, I don't mind the principle of being on the draft, I've done it in the past as well as the core method, but it seems there is a stigma that I don't quite understand.
Finally, I want to stress that everyone I've met and played with so far have been great and I am having a blast getting to know a new ultimate community. I'm not easily deterred from social sporting activities. What I've said is just a perspective that may deem consideration as it concerns new folks in general. I look forward to playing with and meeting more of you in the months to come.
Good luck this weekend,
Jaime
