[TFDA] General FYI about Crabtree

Last week I spoke with Lake Crabtree Park's manager - Drew Cade, about a
few things. One of them was the far field that frequently has been used
by ultimate in the past. They have recently left that field unmowed and
it is growing into a natural grass habitat that gives them some more
biodiversity. He made that decision because it did not seem like
ultimate was using it any more (Mr. Cade has always been sensitive to
the ultimate scene through his son, Jason, recent NC State and Ring
player). It sounded like I could have convinced him to continue mowing
it if there was real need, but that may not be the case in the future as
that habitat gets more established.
So the ramifications for local ultimate, if you're planning something at
Crabtree, remember there's only space for one full size field now.
Since there's no reserving of that space with the park itself, you'll
have to pay attention to this email list to avoid conflicts for that field.
The central peninsula recently has slowly improved, and in the near
future there may be enough playable space there for a second field (and
this has been done already in the past, just not very recommended).
Currently there's enough for a small field, which is what youth league
will be using it for this weekend (look for info on that coming out
soon). Mr. Cade said they fill in major holes when they see them to
prevent injury, and I know that they have improved the near field doing
that.
