[TFDA] Winter League Registration -- Registration closestomorrow!

Segev,
If you think there are a lot of fields available, I would suggest trying to
get a firm reservation for them for all of the winter league weekends
regardless of cost. Also, it is my understanding that that Ultiplex funds
and TFDA operating funds are tracked separately and that people made
targeted donations to the ultiplex fund. The Savage Seven tournament that
I started a few years ago has raised about 5,000 for the ultiplex and I
wouldn't want it spent any other way.

The reality is that there are not readily available fields, and that TFDA
has been willing to pay a premium to get access to what fields are
available. I know from watching Christian try to get fields scheduled for
winter league that there is huge problem finding any field space, much less
a space that can accomodate 4 games at a time 3 time slots in a row (or even
better: 6 games at a time in 2 time slots).

Also, when TFDA has played at sites that have no cost to use them there has
been a common practice to donate money or grass seed to the entity that
oversees those fields.

I can't really speak to the environmental impact of the Ultiplex but it
seems like it would be marginal compared to what else is going on around
this area.

Tim

Christian,
I was just wondering - has anyone done an environmental assessment of the
Ultiplex proposal?
I was just thinking about it and started wondering exactly what the point
of the Ultiplex is. Is it to have fields available for ultimate frisbee
players? If so, there would seem to be a lot of local fields available. I
know the common argument is that we don't get access to those fields because
we tear them up. However, I'd think we'd get more access if we agreed to
pay for their use - as in from the money that is in the Ultiplex fund.
Just thinking that if we didn't have to pave and clear 30 acres of what I
assume is forest, then doing so might not be in the ultimate spirit.
  Thanks,
  Segev
P.S. Excited about winter league. Thanks again for all your
organization. Don't know what we'd do without you!

***Five things about this 2007-08 Winter League Season

1) Register at http://tfda.org/main/index.php

2) We need 2 more captains!

3) We need sponsors! $300 gets a sponsor a 1-year spot on the website, a 4"x
4" display on our WL
jerseys (1 color), and a receipt for tax purposes.

4) Entertainment books are back to $20. A great buy if you're one to do a
lot of sampling of
different restaurants in the area. There are discounts for restaurants,
activities, and hotels
and other items inside and outside the Triangle. Just 2 to 3 purchases with
discounts from the
Entertainment book cover its initial cost. Sign up for one (or more) of
these books when you
register.

5) The Ultiplex fund is growing, and it needs to continue. We will be
updating our Ultiplex page
with more info about what the land purchase LLC has achieved thus far,
including details about the
re-sale of the land it's purchased to developers who'll help pave and clear
the 30 acres set aside
for TFDA.
