Zenners, At this point, I have given up on the Raleigh Parks & Rec Dept for any hope of securing a field for us for the next 3 months. They seem to be overwhelmed with requests for softball fields and are not allowing the fields to be used during our beloved timeslot for anything other than softball. I have tried a number of their "multipurpose" fields (this week including Shelley and Williams). The good ones are reserved, and the rest are rocky and have little or no grass.
Since the weather looks pretty dry from now through Sunday, let's try again for Crabtree Lake park. (part of the Wake County system) off of Aviation Parkway, adjacent to I-40. Various ultimate teams & leagues have played there in the past and I believe it's first come, first serve. I'm not going to ask to RSVP but assume with the nice weather that is forecast that we'll have enough.
Also, please bring your ideas for other alternatives. I tried CASL but wound up leaving a message with Scott (or was it Doug?) who's voicemail greeting went something like this "With the overwhelming desire for fields right now, I'm not available to take your call. Please leave a message and I may return your call within 2-3 days."
Thanks to those of you who have written back with ideas. Shelley Lake park is available but too rocky, and Clayton is a bit too far!
Directions:
Lake Crabtree County Park
Take Exit 285 from I-40 and head south.
The park is on the left, 1/4 mile from the interstate.
Follow the park entrance road and look for the field on your right, adjacent to the lake.
Plenty of close parking.
Thanks,
Ted Aron
