A non-ultimate post: A fundraiser for a friend of ours recovering from a
serious motorcycle accident: Below is a email from my wife describing the
situation and our yardsale fundraiser. Thank You - Tommy Cleveland

Hi everyone,

As you may or may not know, my (our) friend Laura (Loy) Smith was
invovled in a tragic motorcycle accident on May 11 during bike week in
Myrtle Beach. She was riding on the back of a motorcycle with her friend
Mike when a minivan right turned in front of them. After being
life-flighted to MUSC, Mike passed away early Saturday morning and Laura
was given a 30% of living upon arrival. They feared that Laura would be
paralyzed, but she is starting to beat all the odds.
Laura was taken off a ventilator within days and moved out of the ICU in
a little over a week. She has been flown to the Shepherd Center
(www.shepherd.org) located in Atlanta, where she will be living and
recovering. Laura is beginning to move her left arm slightly and has
been able to sit up. She is still unable to stand or walk, but is
beginning to move her legs and hips some. It will be an incredibly long
and hard recovery for her and her family. She is pushing hard for a 100%
recovery.
For those of you who know Laura, it is not hard to believe her positive
outlook even when she cannot move much at all, is wearing a neck brace,
mending bones, cannot talk well due to recent neck surgeries, and thats
not to mention her life has totally been flipped upside down. Because
of her limited mobility, she answers her phone by blowing into a tube.
Her husband Jess and her little girl, Emma (whom she has been unable to
see so far), have moved down to be with her in Atlanta. Jess is
keeping Laura's spirit up and has truly been her biggest cheerleader.

SO!! Why am I emailing all of you, especially since a lot of you do
not even know Laura???? Because I need your help, all of your help in
donating any items to be sold in a yard sale that Tommy and I are
hosting on July 7th. ALL proceeds go to Laura and her family.

If you have odds and ends, unwanted furniture, items you have wanted
to give away, or not enough items to have your own yard sale, we would
LOVE to have them for our yard sale for Laura. If you do not want to
drop off your items or if you can't, we will come pick up as much as
possible.

Since Laura has been living in Jacksonville, NC, she does not know a lot
of people in the Raleigh area, so I would like to get the word out about
the yard sale. If there is anyone that you can pass this on to that will
want to contribute, please let them know about this. I would really
love to be able to help Laura and her family as much as I can. Also,
for those who want to check out the yard sale, we will be up bright and
early starting at 7 and will go to 1 on JULY 7th.

Our address is 201 W. Aycock St. 27608. You can email me at kristinoday at
yahoo.com or Tommy and thclevel at ncsu.edu or you can call me at
749-3970 or Tommy at 923-5490.

Love to all!!

Kristin and Tommy
