[TFDA] META: "Zombie" machine owned by a list member?

A couple of people have asked about how to check on this kind of thing
and what to do about it. First of all, keeping your machine updated
with the latest security patches for your OS is a good idea.

I would also suggest running anti-virus software all the time, and
anti-spyware software regularly. There are a couple of free
anti-spyware programs I use and recommend for Windows PCs:

Spybot: Search and Destroy http://www.spybot.info/

AdAware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Running both of them is a good idea as they may catch different
things. It's a good habit to run these regularly...

Note that most spyware, bots, etc. don't run on MacOS or Linux
machines, and many won't install on Windows if you use a browser other
than Internet Explorer. For most people, I recommend Mozilla Firefox:
 http://www.mozilla.com/ I personally use/prefer Opera:
http://www.opera.com/ Note that the latest versions of Internet
Explorer 7 are supposed to be better than older versions.
