Those instructions are for the x86 and PPC ISOs, not x86_64 (which is
still in the works ;)). You will want to download
http://dbg.download.sourcemage.org/iso/x86_64/0.9.7/devel/chroot-x86-64.tar.bz2 and untar that to your root directory (I believe it untars to chroot-x86-64, so you'll want to change that). I also used http://dbg.download.sourcemage.org/iso/x86_64/smgl-x86_64-silver-thistle-2.6.19.2-mod.iso as the
ISO.

Roughly what I did:
1. Boot from the mgl-x86_64-silver-thistle-2.6.19.2-mod ISO
2. Partition and format
3. Mount your partitions, with root being /mnt/chroot (or some such)
4. Download
http://dbg.download.sourcemage.org/iso/x86_64/0.9.7/devel/chroot-x86-64.tar.bz2 to a partition with the space (probably
/mnt/chroot)
5. Untar chroot-x86-64.tar.bz2 to /mnt/chroot
6. Bind /dev, /sys, and /proc to /mnt/chroot/{dev,sys,proc} and copy
/etc/resolv.conf to /mnt/chroot/etc/resolv.conf
7. chroot into /mnt/chroot
8. Run `sorcery` and select your architecture and options
9. Run `sorcery rebuild`
10. Unless you already have a bootloader setup, you'll need to install
lilo and configure it
11. Reboot and enjoy SMGL on x86_64. :)
