[SM-Users] I just converted to simpleinit. How do I get KDE back?

Did you try startkde?

You can instead of recompiling, do what it would do if you did that:

copy the simpleinit script from the init.d folder of the kdm spell and
place it in the fifth runlevel /etc/init.d/runlevels/%5 with execute
permissions.
