what's so hard about:
lanana
or
smgl-nonlanana
if we allow:
nonlanana
then you're ensuring namespace collisions are possible.
As a distribution -- a third party responsible for managing these scripts -- we
are obligated to not stomp on the undefined lanana namespace just because we
have a script or daemon name. nonlanana scripts could have quite different
semantics, too. What happens when a nonlanana program needs two services and
you name them name1 and name2, but another distro names them name2 and name1 or
name-foo and name-bar?
Moreover, if you're having a hard time finding a nonlanana script you only have
to check the smgl-* names for it since it's guaranteed not to be in the main
namespace.
We already decided upon a standard. If there's no gain from this new proposal
(I see none that overcome the weaknesses of a less specific standard), then we
shouldn't change it.
