I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't contact upstream first. SMGL is
one of the few distros that tries to stay loyal to upstream. Most other
distros don't even bat an eyelash at patching upstream packages to fit
their whims. If you need evidence of this, look to the butchering of the
udev rules file syntax in different distros as an example.
