Not including any PATA stuff would lose me the use of my DVD-Rom drive, personally. :) I have an intel motherboard, an ASUS P5K, and kernel 2.6.23 running just fine. I think I have PATA emulation turned off in the bios, it certainly looks like something I would have turned off. As to the kernel, I had to install Debian first to get a working 64-bit system, and seeing as Debian accessed my drives fine (and I hate configuring the whole kernel at once) I ran make oldconfig using Debian's config. I'm attaching my whole config, I couldn't be bothered to pull out the requisite details now.
