Howdy folks.
My father-in-law is starting to get interested in Linux and has been playing
around w/Mandrake. He asked me for a book recommendation, but I learnt
(misspelling intentional) all I know from messing around on my computer and
reading various docs and HOW-TOs on the Internet. So, I'm looking for some
recommendations from you all.
He is very computer savvy and as been working with computers in various facets
for a long time (> 30 yrs). However, he has no knowledge of Linux, and
anything he knew about any other UNIX variation was lost long ago (since he's
been working w/DOS and Windows fairly exclusively for the last 15+ yrs).
What he really wants is a book which will explain how to get around in Linux
and how to do in Linux what he's used to doing in Windows. Things like
common command replacements (dir->ls), checking and changing hardware
configurations, installing hardware and software, etc. These are tasks he's
very familiar w/in Windows, but having a hard time figuring out in Linux. I
kind of went through the same process myself, but I choose to beat my head
against the wall until I got through. He doesn't necessarily want to wait
that long. :^)
