Hey all,

This message is to all the lists to serve several
functions:

1) To inform everyone that we are indeed back up and
running with the lists. Archives of the old lists HAVE
been preserved, and will be put back online in the near
future.

2) To explain the new list layout. We have 5 lists
total, 4 currently active. They are:
sm-admin - this is a publically readable discussion
list that only team members can post to. This allows
full visibility while preserving a high signal to noise
ratio as we grow.
sm-discuss - this list is a public discussion list.
sm-sorcery - this list is for sorcery
sm-grimoire - this list is for the grimoire
sm-spell-submit - spell submission ONLY. discussion will
not be permitted on this list, and instead should be
sent to sm-grimoire.

The following lists have NOT been recreated:

sm-announce - this will be replaced by a function in our
upcoming news script. In the meantime, use sm-discuss.

sm-cvs - this will be recreated, but may be on
cvs.sourcemage.org since it is simply a distribution
list.

sm-*-bugs - these have not yet been created as an
experiment in the use of bugzilla. If there seems to be
a need for seperate lists, they can be created in the
future.

3) To point out that despite the few days of downtime,
we are most definately back. I have been documenting the
few remaining needs we have to get our site
configuration back to 100%, and will be working with
ibiblio next week to complete the transition.

4) To explain why all this was neccessary. We have
needed a stable solid well mananged base for our core
servers for a long time. ibiblio will provide us with
the resources we need to do the following:

  a) pursue space/bandwidth intensive ideas such as
mirroring all source tarballs in our grimoires locally
as backup, and providing patches to source tarballs.
  b) configure simple mirroring guidelines for potential
mirrors via rsync
  c) automatically provide worldwide mirrors through the
nature of ibiblio

5) To get things rolling. The lists are quiet. Lets
liven them up again. Why not go back to some threads you
want to continue, and simply readdress them to the new
lists?

6) To point out that while @lists.ibiblio.org will
always work, @sourcemage.org does NOT yet work. I hope
to get this working again in the near future. This
applies not only to list addresses, but also to
@sourcemage.org address. i.e. rabrams at sourcemage.org is
down, but rabrams at ibiblio.org is working. This will be
fixed in the future, and team members will get
@sourcemage.org addresses or forwards per your requests
from the team survey a while back.

Anyway, thats whats been going on. thanks to all of you
for being patient as we get things sorted out.

-Ryan
