It is indeed a problem that sometimes you cannot separate
TRACK_ROOT/INSTALL_ROOT ... well, having castfs in stable sorcery
would alleviate one of these; the app only needing to know a ROOT
that is relevant at runtime (since castfs does the relocation to a
possible chroot directory).
This then should match with the not so uncommon idea that the
install path = execution path in make systems/configure scripts.

I don't think we will ever be able to get that stuff straight
without castfs (or similar functionality) in sorcery.
