I wanted to let people know about an opportunity to take the Transition Training workshop being offered in Ann Arbor, MI, Jan 31st-Feb1st  being taught by Michael Brownlee and Lynette Hanthorn of Transition Boulder.  The website for registration and more info is:

Transition has been mentioned on this list before, but just in case: the Transition movement was started by permaculturist Rob Hopkins in Ireland and the U.K. as a response to the twin challenges of climate change and oil depletion (or "the end of cheap energy") and involves a community coming together to vision what their town could look like in a low-carbon, relocalized future.  It's an extremely comprehensive and positive grassroots approach covering local food, economy, healthcare, renewable energy, education, etc.

There are now Transition Initiatives starting all over the world, including many in the U.S.  The training event is meant to immerse attendees in what a transition initiative feels like, and give them the tools to start an initiative in their community.  This is the first training offered in the midwest and we want to make it available to as many communities as possible throughout the region.  If you are interested in Transition or in starting an initiative in your area, this is for you!

Here are a few good websites with more on Transition:
