In regard to the post about where did the money go that was "lost" when the bubbles collapsed ---well you see it really was never there. Money is created by the Federal Reserve out of nothing. When the speculative bubble that was backed by the petrodollar ,or full faith and credit of the American dollar, pops then nothing becomes nothing again. The only people who come out ahead are the ones who get bailed out by the taxpayer. Real money is created as a byproduct of labor. You are payed for your labor therefore it has a value above and beyond whatever mythical monetary value of any bank created fiscal commodity. When the bubble pops the wage earner gets the bill. Hence the government bailouts.
For an excellent review of how we got to this place where now we find ourselves see the book Wealth and Democracy by Kevin Phillips. Another book that anyone who is an insomniac and can understand the detailed congressional investigation records is The Rich and the Super Rich by Ferdinand Lundberg.
For a more contemporary analysis one that does encompass some permaculture principles see Designing the Green Economy by Brian Milani. On line audio sources for the origins of the Federal Reserve and their manipulation of the money supply are Money Masters, and The Wizards of Money. The second one has multiple episodes and deals with much of the background of what has been going on fiscally for the last 60 years. I recommend it highly! Just do what you normally do but listen to it like a radio show. I have listened to the show over and over and still learn something new each time.
Remember that just because some clown in a suit says that the money is there and you can have it for a price does not mean that it is really there. All that happens is that your wealth/earnings of your labor are getting shuffled back and forth mostly into someone else's pockets. What is real wealth is your skills and your knowlege and what you can do with them. Property is a form of wealth also. If you got it your'e lucky and if not then-- oh well.Relocalization is the future. Bryce Ruddock in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin
