This is a 60 Minutes broadcast with some interesting stuff. Click on the
video title “Stopping the Loss”. They are interviewing one of the folks
at the Global Seed Bank in the Arctic region of Norway and he says that
in mid-1800’s, over 7100 **different** varieties of apples were being
cultivated in the Untied State alone. He estimates we’ve lost about
6000 of those varieties to extinction from simply not being grown.
The whole program is really interesting, if a bit scary, but worth it to
view and to think about. Feel free to forward to whomever you think
might be interested.
