I think he is referring to the abuses of GE (dumping pcb in Hudson), Monsanto (Anniston, roundup, gmo's, ongoing),
McWane foundries, the oil industry polluters who devastated Grand Isle Louisana, the Golf Wars , and on and on and on.

But you are exactly right. The solution is not just closer to home but _at home_. Each of us can learn to survive with a 
miniscule footprint, feed ourselves, recycle evething on our property, help out neighbors, teach others, spread the word 
and contribute to the pool of resources, i.e. when we take something out, put something back.
As Woody Guthrie said "take it easy, but take it". Persevere, observe, keep on learning, never look back.
