In the fine Permaculture tradtion of turning problems into solutions, I suggest
a fairly obvious response to your grasshopper "problem". In your shoes I would
look at all that protein on wings and springs, and ask, "How can I convert this
RESOURCE?" Being familiar with the work of Joel Salatin and his
very-profitable free-range pastured chickens, an answer immediately leaps to
the fore. Unless these hoppers are so toxin-laden as to kill chickens, I would
immediately introduce the two species to each other and let them work it out.
Keep in mind that all that hopping nutrient can be converted to all kinds of
meat, eggs, and...well, just let your imagination loose and see what happens.
After all, many cultures consider grasshoppers a delicacy. I understand they
taste like shrimp.
