Folks,
Just seen some info on slashdot about the
Open Archive Iniative http://www.openarchives.org/
this seems to be a common standard for "harvesting"
metadata (i.e. info about the document: the creator
  of the document).

I think theres a strong case for working with emerging
standards as it will make our stuff more interoperable
with other archives.

An example doc follows. I've added a few comments
to explain thins a bit maekerd by ---- ar start of line

<dc:description>With the increasing technical sophistication of both
information consumers and providers, there is increasing demand for
more meaningful experiences of digital information. We present a
framework that separates digital object experience, or rendering,
from digital object storage and manipulation, so the
rendering can be tailored to particular communities of users.
