Hi Anita,
Welcome to the PBS group. I live over in Westfield, on the far north side
of Indianapolis.
We used to grow Japanese iris here. They want a somewhat acidic soil, and
abundant moisture in the growing season. Plant your seed and seedlings in
a peaty mix. I like Promix BX with Biofungicide, but it is neutral so you
would have to add a bit of sulfur or iron sulfate, ammonium sulfate, or
some other acid fertilizer.
