Dear Friends,
We continue exceedingly wet, but it is a slow time on the
bulb scene here.
Crinum bulbispermum is just about done and C. x powelllii is
at peak. A few years ago we planted 3 clumps of C. x powellii around
the garden to see how they'd do without little or no protection in
Zone 5/6. The ones in the wettest spot are almost dead, due I think
to wet and freezing temps. But the plants in dry spots are great. One
clump of 3 or 4 bulbs has around 12 -13 stalks in full bloom.
A few misc Crinum are blooming too such as 'Catherine' and
'Cecil Houdyshel'.
Lilies are coming and going - Orienpets are most obvious now
and very showy, but shorter than in previous years. Asiatics almost
done.
Anthericum is a 'cloud' of hundreds of small white flowers. Lovely.
All iris have gone to seed, and many geophytes are dormant.
The summer heat is on, but it is very green and lush form all the
rain. Adenium are starting up in the heat and annuals are pretty
showy too.
What's blooming where you are at ? Best Jim W.
