Regarding Ellen's ruddyhypoxis, it is amazing what a difference a 'bit of
snow' makes. I have about 30 cultivars beginning to bloom their heads off
in pots but it is completely tender in the garden, wherever I plant them.
The odd one hangs on for a year or two, especially if the winter is mild,
but they are not garden plants. A dozen corms I gave to the in-laws when we
left the UK have turned in patches yards-wide in their garden in the SE of
England.
Intersectional paeonies are just unbelievable here - and this is the first
year they've bloomed.
Best,
J.
