Regarding the "Warmenhoven link" and Jim McKenney's comments on Allium "cowanii", the Warnebhoven account is: "The entire plant is stronger and much larger than both others that it is commonly mistaken for..."
Do we know what "both others" refer to?
I see no evidence here to indicate that the so-called "cowanii" is anything other than a typical form of A. neapolitanum, which itself is quite a variable species.
I also noted on the Wamenhoven site, that my image of Allium 'Gladiator' is used, apparently lifted from my website:
Their link: http://www.wswarmenhoven.com/products/Allium_Gladiator.asp
My original: http://www.plantbuzz.com/Allium/Gallery/melano1/im_melano1_gal1.htm (scroll down, 2nd from bottom)

Thanks, Graham, for posting that Warmenhoven link.
I took a look at the Allium pages at that site, and I found something which
ight be of interest to some members of this group. The account of Allium
owanii at the site begins:
"The entire plant is stronger and much larger than both others that it is
ommonly mistaken for..."
That's good news to those of us who are holding out hope that there is a
ecognizable entity which properly corresponds to the name Allium cowanii.
On the other hand, I don't know what to make of the distinction the site
akes between Allium azureum and A. caeruleum.
Allium lovers, take a look and let us know what you think.
