Diane Whitehead asked about the appearance of Oxalis laciniata and
Tecophilaea cyanocrocus seedlings from Scottish RGC seed.
The "single grassy leaves" are not Oxalis laciniata; I think seedlings of
this group typically have a short stem and a three-leaflet leaf on top.
I don't think Tecophilaea seedlings could produce leaves 70 cm long, but if
this species is grown in a greenhouse, the first leaves do elongate
considerably and flop over. I feel it should be grown as hard (cold
temperature, strong light) as possible to be healthy.
I no longer order from the Scottish exchange because of the US import
restrictions, but I have received a lot of misnamed seed from it in the
past. (And to be fair, also from the AGS and NARGS exchanges.)
