Dear friends;
I know this has been discussed before, but I wonder if anyone
outside of the Pacific Coast or the native range of ANY of the PCN
species has been able to grow any species or hybrid for 3 years or
more. (UK and similar mild climates doesn't count here, since they do
great in the UK).
Specifically in the Midwest or East Coast, US.
I have seen I douglasiana growing on the cliffs above Pt
Reyes, CA and I tenax in the road side weeds in OR and have managed
to keep a few alive for a year, but never had a bloom or long term
survival.
They grow like weeds from seed, but do not winter over.
I am curious if they need more drastic cultivation in the mid
west such as growing in a sand bed or on a dry wall. or grow them in
shade and scree, or...... ? suggestions please.
How far north along the Pacific Coast do they prosper? Brit.
Columbia?, S. Alaska?
I am curious to try this again aggressively, but IN THE
GROUND, not pots.
Please advise. Thanks Jim
