Hi,
When we started this list we set it up with this definition: "Although
bulbs (defined more broadly to include all geophytes) are the focus, we
recognize that people who grow them probably grow other things too and will
be talking about them from time to time. " Although Rodger gives me more
power than I actually have since I can't really control what people do as
is demonstrated by all the people who continue to include the whole message
they are responding to in their reply, I've always thought being inclusive
was better than endless debates about what qualified for discussion. So
there are some things discussed on this list and even illustrated on the
wiki that others think don't belong. It can be a fine line sometimes. Most
of the time we stay close to the topic and when we veer off, it's usually
not for long. The delete key is always available and if people are good
about clearly identifying their subject then others will know when there is
a topic they won't be interested in. Jim McKenney delights in broadening
the discussion, but when someone objected on the list, others came to his
defense. They were even interested in his recipes. So it appears that
people on this list prefer some flexibility in what we discuss.
