Dear Bulb Growers:
I'm curious if anyone has grown massonia in the ground in temperate
climates. We grew M. echinata from seed and planted them outdoors in
spring 2005. They endured last winter with a low of 17 degrees F. They
are in full flower now, and while in flower have seen 17F and 15F in
consecutive nights. They are growing unprotected in the open and have
shown no foliar or floral damage. Is this the most cold hardy species
or should I try others. Has anyone had these last through colder
temperatures than this? Thanks.
