Steve Burger asked,
>What would be the species or cultivated crocus that blooms last in the
>sequence of spring blooming crocus?
As far as spring crocuses go, that would probably be certain selections and
subspecies of Crocus vernus (not the big Dutch selections, though). I have
one deep violet C. vernus, growin from wild seed, that is usually the last
crocus in the garden here. However, certain alpine crocuses can flower in
summer in some climates. (Steve did not mention where he lives.) An example
would be C. pelistericus, which I have not grown heretofore, just having
acquired corms last month. It all depends on when the snow melts.
