And 'tis said that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Parkinson
is somewhat of a Johnny-come-lately in the narcissus/ pseudonarcissus/
daffodil quandary. (Pre-Linnaean and they still had name changes!) If you
look in Clusius - Charles L'Escluse, Rariorum aliquot stirpium per
Pannonian, published in Antwerp in 1583 - several of the woodcut
illustrations are captioned as narcissus, others as pseudonarcissus. And
Fritillaria imperialis was named a lily.
