Well, thanks eveyone for the info. I will let me
client know that they want to let these reseed in the
garden. There will be a mulch put down. Does this make
any difference for seeds? Will it hinder or help? 
They are really tall. They are 18", some have flopped
over though. Many of them will soon be covered with a
groundcover, Myoporum 'Putah Creek'. This cover gets
only 6" tall by 4' wide. It should provide a cool rest
area for the summer.
