Hello Orange County Beekeepers,
The Chatham crew is working up a big Pollinator Week celebration on
June 27. I'll be out of town that weekend but if any of you guys
could lend them a hand, please step up. The email from Debbie is
below. I think they would really appreciate a couple of extra hands
to set up or clean up. Contact Debbie if you can offer a couple of
hours.
Thanks,
Lewis

> Hi beekeepers,
>
> We have been talking the last couple of meetings about our upcoming
> third annual National Pollinator Week Celebration to be held
> Saturday, June 27 from 10:00 am til 2:00 pm at Chatham Mills/
> Chatham Marketplace in Pittsboro. See photos at http://
> www.ces.ncsu.edu/chatham/ag/SustAg/farmphotojune2808.htmlto view
> last year’s celebration.
>
> I am already working with a couple of beekeepers on logistics.
>
> If you want to help with this event, with advance preparation and/
> or actually being there on June 27 then please email me ASAP so I
> can start a little ad hoc committee and we can discuss by email.
> One lesson we learned last year – have a few volunteers come in
> later in the afternoon to help with breaking down because we were
> all pooped and wilted from being in the nearly 100 degree heat all
> day!
>
> Christina, will you be able to bring your observation hive? That
> was popular last year, as were the newly emerged bees that kids
> could hold.
>
> We are looking into renting a big tent to provide more shade than
> we had last year.
>
> Last year we had a talk on kids and bees, one on beekeeping basics,
> and one on planting a pollinator garden. This year we will likely
> do less formal talks but more hands-on stuff.
>
> This year we plan to have a children’s tent and so we need more
> children’s activities. Ashleigh is designing a coloring book based
> on some of my photos and is also working on making buttons. We can
> have story telling around theme of bees and pollinators and
> beekeeping. Would love to let kids try on equipment – anyone have
> stuff to lend? What other cool kids’ things can we do? We will also
> have the scavenger hunt from last year and that was popular with
> both kids and adults!
>
> Jim Williams has agreed to do a talk on the basics of beekeeping.
> Jim, you might want to do this talk twice, or maybe you do it once
> and someone else does it later. What do you think?
>
> I will be giving tours of the pollinator garden that we have
> planted at Chatham Mills.
>
> Don Hopkins will be bringing the bee cage and we can have a few
> sessions in there.
>
> We need beekeepers to bring books, equipment, products from the
> hive, anything that helps promote beekeeping and is good for show
> and tell.
>
> I look forward to hearing from you guys – please email me if you
> want to help and/or have ideas!
>
> Thanks,
