Jerry, tell us more about watching the temperatures. What do you watch
for? What is ideal?

Wood growth is max at about 80 degrees (F. of course) Starts about 70 and
stops at about 90 degrees. Early spring I watch for a forecast for the first days
of daily highs of about 80 degrees for three days in a row. Two is
acceptable. Here that is occurs about mid to last of April. Once the graft has started
callousing lower temps aren't detrimental. At that time the sap hasn't started
flowing to the point of flooding the graft. Very important with Juglans and
Carya not to flood the graft union.
If persimmon floods, no problem. The soft woods, most fruits, temp not
critical.
