I have found a large fraction of old links die, especially old links
to on-line newspapers or magazines. I'm pretty sure the problem is
with the underlying link and not with the tiny URL. On the other
hand, it is often considered polite to show the full URL, too, so
people know what sort of thing to expect on the other end - there's
usually a lot of human-readable information in the link itself.
People can still read the info they want if the line got split or
something, so the tiny URL adds value in making it easier to use the
