[NAFEX] soil ph

Jerry,

Elemental/agricultural sulphur is generally the preferred method for acidifying soil. It works well. We started at a pH of 6.9. This spring I used some in some places I wanted a lower pH and this summer's soil test revealed it had brought the soil down to 6.4. Google it and you will find how much you need to apply to lower pH.

I have added quite a bit of horse manure to my soil which has a fair amount of clay and now it is very fertile (by actual test) but too basic, probably because the manure contained quite a bit of urine. It tills up wonderfully. Would gypsum bring down the ph? I also have quite a few pine needles which I am going to till in. Thanks. Jerry in southern Indiana
