Whereever I can afford it and it looks like it will pay, I am trying to
replace hand labor with equipment.
I have purchased two transplanters to reduce transplanting time - one is
hand operated from Japan and will be used for greens in the hoophouses
and some alliums, while the other is on a 3pt mount and will be used for
almost everything I set out. I also purchased a cultivating tractor to
reduce the amount of time spent on weeding. I will put the drip
irrigation in the hoophouses on a timer this season to ensure that it
turns on and off when I need it (there were several times last season
when I forgot to turn it off and it ran a few hours too long). I also
scaled up my implements to reduce the amount of time required to prepare
a field for planting.
