[Market-farming] Yellow Jackets

Karen,

Yellow Jackets, at least when ground nesting, have only one entrance to the
nest; if you cover it they will perish. We used to do this with a clear
glass bowl at night when they are all home. You will find out quickly if
they have other exits. I once drove into a nest with a brush mower, that'll
get your heart pounding.

Plan B: liquid propane. It might burn your house down too but at least
you'll be rid of the wasps!

Good luck.

And greetings from Berkshire County, the real Western Mass.

Subject: [Market-farming] Yellow Jackets

My house in S. Hadley, MA has (judging by traffic) at least 2 large yellow
jacket nests concealed and protected under a metal roof with only their
access places visible. I know yellow jackets are helpful predators but the
positions of these nests make getting in and out of house and using deck
dangerous -- especially come August/Sept. Does anyone have any
recommendations for a least toxic way or pest control folks in western MA
that would use a least toxic means to clear them out of the areas?

Thanks!

Best wishes to all,

Karen
