I am not a highly experienced grower (4th year), although I have the benefit of several people who are. I would grow German White, known to be a tough character. Do you mulch your cloves in the fall, then pull it off in the spring? I plowed down an alfalfa sod to provide nitrogen for the garlic to feed on. I laid out "flakes" of mulch hay, 3-4" thick, on top of my cloves last fall. That really helped protect them. This spring, I pulled those flakes off, before the garlic got very big and put them between the rows, for weed control. I also hand weed. Some people I know use vinegar to control weeds, too. Perhaps there are others who other ideas.

We've had a lot of customers this year asking for garlic, which we have never grown. Well, we've tried, but we always do something wrong. We'd like to try again. Can anyone recommend type of garlic, bulb source, etc...? I need something that can hold up to our erratic weather.
Thanks,
Carla
