[Market-farming] tractors

We recently purchased a CIH Farmall 90, which up until last year was
called the JX90. No 4WD but do have a loader. The 80 HP diesel is nice
compared to the 50 or so we had with our old 574. The units are built
in China, but seem to be solid. The 574 would just barely pull our
hiller/mulcher. The lack of power had a huge impact on how the plastic
was laid, or not. With the proper horsepower plastic laying is now very
painless.

Subject: [Market-farming] tractors

Hi All. I'm in the market for a new tractor this year and would like to
hear suggestions/experiences/warnings, etc..

We're using old farmalls for tillage, cultivation, mowing, etc. I'm
looking for a tractor to use as a loader for making compost, to pull a
transplanter, and possibly a plastic-layer. Future uses might be
rototilling, or attaching a backhoe. I have sandy, well-drained soil, I
don't think I need four wheel drive, and don't need a lot of horsepower.
I'm thinking about the 5000 series JD, or similar 40 - 50 hp machine.

thanks,
dave
