I've used a double electric fence to very good effect for several
years. About 48" tall, about 36" apart. About a year ago, a flood
took out sections of it and it was several months before I got it back
up. Last year, I endured minor deer depredation; I suspect a single
deer learned to jump the fence or was trapped within the fenced area.
I have about two acres enclosed that is heavily vegetated and gullied.

Just the past couple of months I have seen evidence of probably one
feral hog and am in the process of trying to trap him. I suspect I
have the hog restrained within the fence; he roots along the inside of
the fence, but not the outside.

I agree that a motivated deer can seemingly go anywhere. I once
watched a medium size deer hit a field fence at full speed and go
through it; the wire spacing was about 6"x9".

Two closely spaced strands of barbed wire on the top of a fence can be
a fairly effective deer snare. I sometimes see one hanging by a leg
and I many times see the top two wires twisted together where a deer
has escaped.
