I have often wondered, but hoped to never be shown, just what will happen to
the "elete" foods when a real financial crisis comes along.
Years ago we had one of the major shoe makers here, and as it was explained
to me, when the economy was booming and folk were not too close with their
money things were slow with Dexter Shoes. When things slowed down Dexter
boomed, my friend (one of the chiefs) said " we dont have a flimsey or
faddish thing in our line, and the less money folk have the more they come
back to our sturdy and basic values."
Folks have to eat, and they will quickly re-learn what good values are when
they shop. Be prepared to educate basic ways to use common products, resipes
as simple as mashed or roasted potatoes, green beans jazzed up with some
onion and cheese, hints on stuff like buying the larger size and freezing
may help set you apart from the guy with the 60 cent each eggs and 70 cent
corn ears. Take a good hard look around your stand, can you be happy feeding
your family at the prices you see; if not where would you you go and how
will you be competitive?
