[Market-farming] Cost to start plants

I think it depends on numbers of transplants. I just added up what I grew in the greenhouse last year, and it comes to a little over 16,000 plants. This was lots of succession plantings, but there is no way I could start that many under lights. Our greenhouse is a very small, homemade deal, made with cattle panels arched over, held down by tent stakes. It's about 9 feet wide and 73 feet long. We have double poly on it, inflated, and we use a small diesel heater for heating.
It's not perfect by any means. But, it was made by stuff we had around the farm so it didn't cost us much to put it up. I think I have more trouble trying to cool it than we do heating it. We have exhaust fans on the north end, and I have fans inside as well, We put up cool pads on the south end so we can pull cool air through, but that only works up to a point.
Some day we will have a "real" greenhouse, but for now, this was cheap and it works.
