Though this is not verified scientifically, my botanist friend (who is not at all interested in organic ag) said he would not use anything from WalMart no matter what the label. He might use it for shrubs, but felt like the best use would be the first layer of road bed before applying asphalt. For all he could tell, it is ground up used roofing shingles....

p.s. Last month, I called another national company directly, to ask about their "soil conditioner" and they could not verify its exact source or content, only that it is municiple waster from various locations around the country. They said they did not test the product for anything, though of course the label says "natural". I decided not to use it on veggies.

i've used the bagged compost and humus from wal-mart and related stores and wondered if there might be heavy metals or other undesirables in the mix...

  anyone have an idea?
