I'm sorry for implying that the Middleburg hunt crowd was southern.
Middleburg has very little to do with the American south. (its really
an attempt to recreate feudal England in America) In fact, the
monied class that you find out in the horse estates are more likely
to have their roots in New York, or California than from anywhere in
the south.

(and speaking of Faulkner's 'Barn Burning' we had a rash of those a
few years back when the new computer money people moved in and wanted
to join the hunt and were rejected - money can't get you everything
- so what the new money did was start their own hunt. From there the
two sides apparently went around burning each other's barns until an
apparent truce was arrived at. Instead of a southern story this
sounds more like a Howell novel about Boston and the conflict between
old money and new).

And as far as wishing for the magical investigative journalist to
appear, I recommend a great Capra movie from the early 40's , Meet
John Doe, to disabuse anyone of the idea that reporters get to report
news that owners don't want covered. (actually, in our case a
reporter for the local newspaper wrote a great first article and she
told us 'these sort of things get covered up around here, but this
time, I won't let it' Her next article was spiked by the paper's
owner and no further stories appeared) Or, if you want something at
the theatre today dealing with the same theme try John Sayles' Silver
City.

But this has gotten OT. for an on topic question -- How about an
organic solution for the harlequin bugs that are chomping down on our
mustard crop? We haven't had this bad an infestation in a number of
years.
