The training will take place Wednesday, June 24th from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. For more information, check out http://www.chapelhillsds.org/. 3) PETITION TO STOP UNC SCOOTER REGULATIONS Check out the UNC Scooter petition, started by a group of people trying to stop the new UNC scooter regulations from going into place. UNC is trying to force scooter riders to purchase non-secure and inconvenient parking spaces, which we feel would lead to many difficulties, and does not support the University's vision of eco-friendly, traffic-friendly and space-friendly transportation. Please spread the word and sign our petition! Go to http://www.UNCscooters.com and help us support scooter rights! 4) MORE UPCOMING EVENTS! TUES, 6/30, 7 PM: FILM SCREENING- "WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF FIRE" Join us for a screening of the 2002 German film "Was tun, wenn's brennt?", translated as "What To Do In Case of Fire", a humorous story of anarchist squatters in Berlin. From http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0207198/: "What To Do In Case of Fire" tells the humorous and touching story of six former creative anarchists who lived as house squatters in Berlin during its heyday in the 80s when Berlin was still an island in the middle of the former eastern Germany. At the end of the 80s they went their separate ways with the exception of Tim and Hotte, who have remained true to their ideals and continue to fight the issues they did as a group. In 2000, with Berlin as Germany's new capital, an event happens forcing the group out of existential reason to reunite and, ultimately, come to grips with the reason they separated 12 years ago. SAT, 7/11, 7 PM: "TO THE BONE"- LITERARY MAGAZINE LAUNCH PARTY! "To The Bone" is a literary journal based out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina with a focus on raw, personal writing that whispers in your ear and leaves the hair on the back of your neck standing up. Please join us for the release of our first issue, with readings by authors from across the state. Visit http://www.tothebone.net for samples and additional information. We are a literary journal dedicated to personal, moving art. Boredom is our nemesis and we have no tolerance for it. We aspire to rise above high-brow expectations and publish art for the common man or woman. We want to take on touchy subjects and look difficult issues straight in the eye. We are artists that are bold and not afraid. MON, 7/13, 6 PM: G20 PROTEST PLANNING MEETING Join other Chapel Hill-area radicals to discuss the upcoming G20 summit taking place this September in Pittsburgh, PA. We'll be sharing info about the G20 and why protests will happen, what sorts of actions are being planned, and how we can build momentum locally. THURS, 7/17, 7 PM: "ORPHANS OF WAR"- AUTHOR READING WITH BEARTA POWELL Join us for an author reading with Bearta Powell, whose compelling memoir "Orphans of War" provides a gripping autobiographical account of a young life lived in war-torn Lebanon. The story unfolds with the life of the author and the lives of her siblings, who, despite losing their parents at a tender age, they found the courage to live through the perils of war, hunger, abandonment, fear, and hopelessness. As you journey with the author through her childhood, teenage years and, finally, adulthood, you are transported into the chaos of war: hiding in bomb shelters, living in an SOS orphanage, surviving by your instincts. In a writing style reminiscent of a screenplay rather than a novel, you see the action, experience the smells, and feel acute pain.
