== Full Announcement ==
We are pleased to be able to schedule and announce downtime for
mysql.ibiblio.org. We have been providing reliable access to MySQL
version 4.0.27 for quite some time, but have been eager to upgrade to
the current stable release, 5.0.51a. We can now do that.
In order to make this transition safely, i.e. in a manner that will
minimize potential for data loss, we are scheduling a 90-minute
service interruption while we roll out the upgrade. Even with the
carefully-planned upgrade and a backout strategy, there are still
minimal risks, so we encourage all users with databases on
mysql.ibiblio.org to perform a manual backup late this week. Please
store your backups off-site, as we do not have enough disk space for
everyone to suddenly create dump files of all of the databases on
mysql.ibiblio.org. If you use software like Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla
or similar, you can follow the instructions for backing up shown here:
If you need simply instructions on how to back up your database from the
command line, look here and scroll down to the center of the page under the
heading "Using Straight MySQL Commands"
Please note that users of mysql2.ibiblio.org are NOT affected by any
of the scheduled work, and will remain at 4.0.27 until mysql2's
upgrade to 5.0.
