History shows that as inflation forces reach a tipping point that productive businesses figure out they can make more money by trading "paper" than by producing. So think of GE makes money making loans, ditto for Deere, Sears, and on and on. These are some of the clues that hyperinflation is threatening down the road.
Same goes for the 20-30 minutes down the road thinking by traders. There are too many businesses slowing or stopping making things, switching their models to trading paper, or going bankrupt. Too much uncertainty in the future to make an "investment" in the future.
With so much uncertainty, the gamblers have become the ones who haven't changed with the times and continue to believe that buy/hold for 20-30 years works in this environment.
Ha ~~~ If I could.... I still would "buy and hold' critical supplies that would be hard to find in an environment that is either in a depression or hyperinflation.... and sell them later as needed.

Used to be stock was something you bought now in hopes that it would
increase in value over twenty or thirty years. Now of days it seems like most
"investors" (read "gamblers") are looking twenty or thirty minutes into the
future.
