Iron oxide was used for the reds, and apparently when it was heated it
could produce other shades as well. The yellow is from ochre. These are
the same pigments used today to color house paints and art supplies.
They were likely mixed with an oil, probably the tallow from the deer
bones. It's amazing it's held up this well for so long. It felt like a
very sacred place.
